Stanley Gordon Peacock was born in Soham on 10th August 1917 (Newmarket Q3-1917 3B:669), baptised in Soham on 7th September 1917, son of William and Harriet PEACOCK (née MARTIN ) of Qua Fen Common, Soham. His father died in 1928

In the 1939 register his mother Harriet [1-2-1878] was at Qua Fen Common with her sons Robert [9-11-1906] and Cyril [30-4-1922] both farm labourers, and daughter Edith E [2-8-1923] celery factory hand, later Mrs STARLING.

He married Dorothy Gladys ANDREWS in 1940 (Cambridge Q3-1940 3B:2218). Their son Ronald was born in 1943. According to probate, they were living at Gravelpit Farm, Heath Road, Swaffham Prior


1st/4th Essex were part of 51st Indian Infantry Brigade, 4th Indian Infantry Division, from November 1944 to August 1945. The Allied advance in Italy stalled on reaching Ravenna in the winter of 1944. Ravenna was taken by Canadian troops at the beginning of December 1944 and the sector was relatively peaceful for the first 3 months of 1945. Stanley was the sole death in his battalion that day.
